CFA - Advance VCAL

CFA may be able to enter a partnership with schools in the Advance or VCAL programs in areas where it has responsibility for the delivery of fire services, on private land throughout rural and outer urban Victoria.  See the SOFWeb website for details on the Baimbridge College VCAL Partnership.

 

Cricket Victoria's Sports Development Program - This program offers VCE, VCAL students (Year 11 & 12) or Year 12 graduates a professional qualification leading to a career in the sport and recreation industry.

 

lab.3000 - the first VCAL Digital Design programs. Students interested in completing a Year 12 VCAL Certificate and studying Multimedia at the same time can now study at the International Centre of Graphic Technologies at RMIT University.

 

RSPCA "Working with animals" program - supports the aims of the Personal Development Skills strand including the development of  civic responsibilty through volunteering and working for the benefit of others. Pre and post visit Literacy and Numeracy activities are available.

 

Scope Young Ambassadors program 

Scope Young Ambassadors was developed in 2000, targets young people aged between 14-18 years and is designed to create more inclusive communities though disability awareness, youth education and connecting to community.  SYA is mapped to VCAL PDS Units 1 & 2 at Foundation, Intermediate and Senior levels.

 

Student Youth Network Inc (SYN) - SYN has a range of activities and programs that provide unique learning opportunities to students from all backgrounds and skill levels. Their programs teach digital and multi literacy to young people from Victoria, providing a hands-on way of learning that engages young people.

 

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (Vic) Ltd - the program includes service, skills, physical recreation and adventurous Journey.  The qualities of service, teamwork, initiative, perseverance, self-discipline, communication, and adventure have enormous relevance in the development of young people everywhere. 

 

VCAL Garden Project - an integrated project  at Mazenod College where students designed and developed a school garden.

 

VicRoads Road Safety Units - Keys Please

Keys Please is a unit designed to facilitate and support schools/VCAL providers and their students to organise and run a Keys Please seminar.  The Keys Please program is provided by VicRoads free of charge. Trained facilitators deliver the session using comprehensive speaker notes, resources and accompanying DVD.

 

Young Achievement Australia - The program provides an authentic learning environment for a team of 15-25 young people to build their skills, knowledge and experience by putting their ideas into action to establish, plan and operate a self directed business.

Changing Lanes is successfully re-engaging young people who have long-term histories of alienation from school or other forms of education and training. The initiative represents a significant watershed in their lives.

 

New Apprenticeships: diversity in care for young people (Exemplary)

Banyule Nillimbuk (LLEN) (17 December 2004)

To improve students interest in education, a large group of schools set up a Schools Based New Apprenticeship (SBNA) program. Students spent 15 hours a week in work placement and training sessions in conjunction with VCAL or VCE. Many disenchanted students chose to return to school.

 

VET in schools - training for the automotive industry (Exemplary)

Doveton Secondary College (10 November 2004)

Doveton Secondary College hosts an Automative Skills Centre that offers training to a large group of local secondary colleges. The school delivers the VET Certificate II to students enrolled in VCE or VCAL. Students receive apprenticeship training and specialised training from LINK Employment and Training.

 

The Amazing Race VCAL Style (Exemplary)

Gisborne Secondary College (16 March 2006)

The race involved students in groups of two leaving from nearby Sunbury making their own way into the Melbourne CBD. Each group was given $40 each. Students had to complete 12 checkpoints somewhere in the CBD. At each checkpoint they were required to gather evidence . The finishing line was atop the Rialto Towers Observation Deck.

 

Alternative pathways to education and training for year 11 and 12 students (Exemplary)

Western Edge Vocational Cluster (WEVC) (21 December 2004)

A large group of schools set up the Western Edge Vocational Cluster (WEVC) to give year 11 and 12 students the best possible opportunities to acquire full-time employment or training when they leave school. Focusing on practical hands-on learning, the cluster offers VET and VCAL programs to students from a number of different schools.
